Sober- Childish Gambino (Miami Horror Edit)

Today is a good day. Ben Plant ala Miami Horror has dropped the first remix he's done in about 4 or 5 years. I remember the ol' school MH remix days- back when synth music was just starting to grow in Australia, and consequentially around the world. The Miami Horror remix of Sober by Childish Gambino (originally meant to be a cover) is flat out sick. Expect rich, 80s synth undertones and creamy, dreamy vocals. A fitting remix-comeback from Miami Horror indeed.

Midnight Pool Party - Stay (Jordan F Remix)

One of our favorite Aussie synthwave producers, Jordan F, has recently released his latest remix for another one of our favorite Aussie disco bands, Midnight Pool Party. As usual, Jordan F's sound is synthy, melodic, and unusually catchy. This remix features smooth 80s synths coupled with funky exotic tropical melodies- a very interesting combination, one that really lets you feel the music.
Be sure to give the track a spin below and make sure to follow Jordan F here.

Generik Ft. Nicky Van She: The Weekend

Cool has a new sound! ‘Tour Of Cool’ connoisseur GENERIK has taken time out from his International highflying lifestyle, as professional party starter, to invest in his passion for the music that drives his life. Generik’s maiden voyage into the studio is a colossal collab with Nicky Van She, frontman for one of Disco Unchained's favorite synth-bands, "Van She". It’s aptly titled "The Weekend", features Nicky Van She on vocals, and is coming out on ONELOVE for the World.
A joyous story of parties lived and loved, wild adventures celebrated and savored, "The Weekend" hotwires hyperactive house with euphoric ‘90s rave piano, a sleek guitar solo and Nicky Van She on vocals. Naturally, the track was born on a bender, which started in a London pub and spilled back to Nicky’s house to all hours. “Nicky started singing the vocal into his phone on the train home,” recalls Generik Tyson. “We got home and started banging out the piano chords and the core of the track was made.”

Falqo.

Introducing Falqo, the next big thing on the indie-electro scene. Many of you are probably familiar with him already; his hit single “Feel Your Love” was met with thunderous applause by the electronic/nu-disco community upon its release a few weeks ago.

Disco Unchained’s new inter-mix program brings to you everything there is to know about Falqo. From his musical inspirations and influences, all the way to his favorite horror films, find out everything there is to know about this enigmatic artist in our exclusive debut inter-mix with him below!

Also, for those of you wondering what the hell an "Inter-Mix" is; it's a Disco Unchained exclusive profile review on an artist we feel is worth taking a look at. We ask the artist questions, both personal and professional, and we explore the origins and style of their music via exclusive mix-tapes they produce specially for us.  Special thanks to our friends at NuDiscoYourDisco for exclusively co-premiering it on their channels as well. Nothing but love for you guys!

1) Who is Falqo?

My full name is Alexander White and I grew up in the southern suburbs of Sydney.
The name "Falqo" is derived from my favourite animal, the Peregrine Falcon. I also chose the name in admiration of DJ Falcon, French Dj/Record producer and the late Austrian singer Falco.

2)  Where would you say your greatest inspirations have come from in regard to your 'sound'?

My father, who's a rock-n-roll king, my mother who's a disco queen and of course, Daft Punk who have been my heroes from a very early age. I was nine years old when I first heard and saw the video for 'Around the World,' I guess that's where my love for music and film developed..

3) Aside music production, what do you do for fun?

I write stories, delete emails, read books and watch way too many movies. One of  my favourite stories is Braveheart, along with Avatar and Dragon - The Bruce Lee one.

4) This is tough and we're known for asking this, but what's your all-time favourite track?

Claude De Bussy - Love Story

5) Where do you see Falqo 2 years from now? 5 ?

Ideally, I'd like to be travelling with my friends, having fun and of course, making music, but I don’t really like looking too far into the future, today is enough for me.

6) What's Falqo's favorite horror- film?

Braveheart (with Mel Gibson).

7) When is the album set to release? Any EPs or teasers in the pipe line?

Working on a project at the moment, but releasing it is another story. The 'Feel Your Love' EP is set for official release in September with a music video (directed by myself.) I have a lot of other stuff in the pipeline, but can't say too much about it at this stage!

8) What can we expect from Falqo in the future?

A Storm is Coming!

9) Is there anything you'd like to shout-out to your fans?

There is only love.

LeBRON- Angelis (Magoo Remix)

Magoo's spin on LeBRON's latest track "Angelis" has been ringing bells all week at Disco Unchained. In terms of vocals, the song features a very minimalistic approach, which only adds to the overall listening experience of the track. However, the beat is very bold and crisp, and could even please the pickiest of Disco Unchained fans; which makes the mix a prime example of Nu Disco at it's best!

The original is now available for download through Bonjour Bonjour Music on iTunes or Beatport.

YesYou - Frivolous Life featuring Marcus Azon

A track that features splendid vocals, great lyrics, and a catchy indie backing track. YesYou have infused many elements of rock, indie, folk and electronic music to create a masterpiece in itself.  The duo released their debut track, "Hold on" in 2011. Since their debut, the band has had success amongst the indie crowd, with many tracks including, "So much to give" and "Even when."

The Babe Rainbow.

The Babe Rainbow, a very classy independent Australian psychedelic rock group, really caught our attention recently.

To begin with, their music is all unbelievably authenthic. Though bands like Tame Impala and Triptides do manage to catch the 60s vibe at times, all ( three) of The Babe Rainbow’s compositions sound like they’re from 1964- literally 1964 (the title of their second released single). Perhaps it is their recording equipment, or maybe even the way they tune their guitars, but The Babe Rainbow really pulls off the 60s psychedelic rock feel in all of their tracks.

The second thing that struck us about The Babe Rainbow was the oddity of track names and the beauty of their album artwork. One particular track that really hooked us was Secret Enchanted Broccoli Forest. Yes, you read that correctly. Even cooler than the track’s name (arguably) is its artwork.

The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators (1966)

Notice the similarities between The 13th Floor Elevators' album work and the track image for “Secret Enchanted Broccoli Forest””. See what we mean? The Babe Rainbow is literally an awesome reincarnation of the typical, absurdly catchy 60s psychedelic rock group. Be sure to check out their other tracks (sadly there’s only two more) below!

Sunday Interview with Luke Cuerel (Pigeon)

Disco Unchained managed to get an interview with Pigeon front-man Luke Cuerel.  Pigeon, an Australian electronic dance band, has been making jams since 2011. Their music is fresh, and their beats are phat.

Shazeb: Alright, let's start with the basics. What got you into music?

Luke: We all got into music in different ways, some of us dabble in jazz and roots stuff while some of the other guys are DJs and into rock and pop. Now we're a mish-mash of different styles under the umbrella of electronic indie dance. We all have been to a life changing gig early on that sparked interest in music making. Probably would be some embarrassing gigs in there too.

Shazeb:  Life changing experiences you say? Hm, I think i get what you mean. Anyways, what would your top 5 favorite bands/groups of all time be?

Luke: As a band, I'd have to say we draw so much influence from Royksopp, Friendly Fires and Delphic. Of all time, we might add in The Beatles and Daft Punk. I'd love to through the wildcard in there of Eminem, he has the nostalgia factor.

Shazeb: All hail Daft Punk! I personally am a fan of Friendly Fires as well, and enjoy their music. I guess i could see some of their influence on Pigeon. Now, if you could change one thing about the music industry as a whole, what would it be?

Luke: I would love to see more help for artists to develop their craft/product, however it's pretty lucky to be able to make music for a living. We're all pretty stoked. We're starting careers in the music industry.

Shazeb: Speaking of careers, what advice would you have for upcoming independent synth artists?

Luke: Do what you want! Go crazy with synths, the possibilities are endless with electronic music.

You guys can follow them here!
